Ford Motor Co. says its midsize Mondeo (pictured) will remain part of the company’s European lineup, even though the Fusion upon which it is based is being dropped in the U.S., Automotive News Europe reports.

On Tuesday Ford announced it will eliminate the Fusion in North America—along with all other car models except the Mustang sport coupe and crossover-like Focus Active hatchback—in four years.

The company, citing sagging demand for conventional sedans, plans instead to expand its array of pickup trucks, SUVs and crossover vehicles. But ANE points out that sales are shrinking for the Mondeo too. Deliveries in Europe plunged 17% to14,000 cars in January-March, according to market researcher JATO Dynamics.

Ford has denied a Reuters report that Mondeo production will move from Spain to China, where sedans remain popular, when the next-generation model debuts.
