Ford HQ Evacuated by Brief Basement Fire
Hundreds of employees at Ford Motor Co. headquarters in Dearborn, Mich., were sent home for the day after a brief electrical substation fire in the building’s basement this morning.

Ford began evacuating the building at about 9 a.m.. The fire was contained within an hour. Power to the 12-story structure, nicknamed the Glass House, was cut as a precaution. There are no reported injuries. But Ford later said later the disruption would delay its ability to report its October car sales until Wednesday.
In April Ford launched a 10-year, $1 billion renovation of its technical and design campus less than two miles away. The headquarters will undergo a smaller scale overhaul beginning in 2021.
