The customizable 10-inch wide display can be adapted to five driving modes (Normal, Wet, Sport, Track and V-Max) that are selected via steering wheel-mounted controls. Each mode presents and prioritizes information differently based on needs and preferences, according to Ford.
In the “Normal” setting, the speedometer is centered while ear selection is on the right, and fuel and temperature are top left. A hockey-stick-shaped tachometer display highlights the 3,000-to-7,000-rpm range and uses a compressed scale for lower rpm.
The “Wet” mode uses a blue theme. Graphics under the speedometer are designed to emulate the shine of wet asphalt to help remind drivers to drive cautiously.
"Sport" mode uses an aggressive orange color. Gear selection is centered, while the speedometer is moved to the right and is less prominent.
The "Track" setting has a black background with red graphics that can be read quickly at a glance, Ford says. Gear selection and engine speed are displayed prominently, while coolant temperature, oil pressure, oil temperature and fuel level (shown as a percentage rather than miles to empty) are bottom right.
Geared for top-speed driving, the "V-Max" display takes a minimalist approach to alleviate driver distraction. The speedometer is enlarged and centered, while engine speed is indicated by a dot on a line. Coolant temperature, oil pressure, oil temperature and turbocharger boost are displayed to the right, and fuel level is top left.
Ford worked with Pektron plc (electronic design, development, implementation and manufacture) and Conjure Ltd. (graphical design) to develop the system. Race driver Scott Maxwell also served as a consultant.
