Ford Motor Co. says it is adding another 386,000 vehicles to a U.S. recall in August that covered 419,000 of its large Crown Victoria, Lincoln Town Car and Mercury Marquis sedans produced during the 2005-2011 model years.
The original campaign involved inspecting or replacing steering shaft components that could corrode and break in cars sold in the District of Columbia and 22 snow-belt states.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says Ford expanded the recall after discovering potential steering shaft problems in cars outside the original recall area.
