Ford Motor Co.’s refreshed Mustang sport coupe will phase out its 3.7-liter V-6 engine option for the 2018 model year. The company rolled out the new model today during simultaneous unveilings in Detroit, Los Angeles and New York City.

Both remaining engines—a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder and 5.0-liter V-8—are significantly upgraded for more power and efficiency. The four-banger offers more torque, and the heavily redesigned V-8 promises a higher revs, more power and such refinements as a combination high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection system.

Ford will reveal performance data on both engines later in the year. The car is scheduled to go on sale this autumn.

An all-new 10-speed automatic transmission replaces the previous 6-speed with faster shift times. The redesigned manual gearbox for both engines promises improved torque delivery, thanks to a new twin-disc clutch and dual-mass flywheel system.

The restyled Mustang for 2018 gets a lower hood, more aerodynamic front and rear treatments and an optional performance spoiler mounted on the deck lid. Available tech features include a MagneRide suspension, active-valve exhaust system, pre-collision assist, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist and customizable 12-inch all-digital LCD instrument cluster.
