The new 7.3-liter V-8 engine that will be offered in Ford Motor Co.’s Super Duty pickup trucks eventually may be used in some F-150 pickups, including the off-road Raptor.

The massive V-8 packaged with a 10-speed automatic transmission will fit into an F-150, Ford officials tell Motor Authority. The online publication notes that the engine could replace the 6.2-liter V-8 that was previously used in the F-150 Raptor off-road pickup.

Ford unveiled the redesigned Super Duty pickups (F-250, F-350 and F-450) with the 7.3-liter engine option at this week’s Chicago auto show. The 2020 models go on sale later this year. Performance specifications haven’t been announced.

Ford says the new V-8 also could be adapted for the Mustang muscle car. The carmaker has no plans to develop such a configuration itself, but it predicts tuner companies will do so.
