Chairman Bill Ford Jr. reports that last week he purchased 3.7 million of Ford Motor Co.'s Class B shares, the family-held stock that conveys 36 times the voting rights as the company's common stock.

All 71 million Class B shares are owned by descendants of founder Henry Ford. They own 2% of the company's equity but hold 40% voting power.

Bill Ford now owns 8.1 million Class B shares, or 11.5% of the total, some of them held in trust for other family members. His filing with securities regulators does not list the price he paid or disclose from whom he bought the stock.
