Ford Motor Co. has shown dealers a prototype of the carmaker’s upcoming Bronco SUV that features a removable roof and doors, Automotive News reports.

Ford declined to comment on the report. To date, the only official image of the all-new Bronco is shown behind a mud-caked cloth. The chunky off-roader is expected to launch late next year.

After being removed, the Bronco’s two doors and removable hardtop can be stowed inside the vehicle's cargo area, according to the newspaper. Sources tell AN that the side mirrors are attached to the front pillars, rather than to the doors, so they remain functional at all times.

The truck’s boxy retro design is said to include a rectangular grille and round headlights. "Bronco" is stamped across the front end.

After seeing it, one unnamed dealer described the much-anticipated Bronco as a “game changer.” Another proclaimed it to be “twice as cool” as previously imagined.

At the dealer meeting in Palm Beach, Fla., Ford also confirmed the Bronco will be part of a family of off-road models. This will include a four-door SUV, an off-road pickup and a compact crossover nicknamed the Baby Bronco.

The new SUV will share a rear-wheel-drive body-on-frame platform with the all-new Ranger pickup truck launched early this year. The pickup and Baby Bronco are expected to ride on a separate unibody platform. Sales of the smaller crossover could start by summer 2020.
