Ford Motor Co. says it will hire 3,000 salaried employees this year, 800 more than it previously planned.
Because attrition is low, more than two-thirds of the hiring will be new jobs many of which require expertise in advanced technologies, according to Ford.
The company says 80% of the new recruits will be engineers and other technical professionals in information technology, manufacturing, product development and purchasing. The bulk of the new staff will work in Michigan.
The company's domestic workforce shrank by 13,000 white-collar jobs between 2006 and 2009.
