Canada’s BlackBerry Ltd. says it has inked a deal to work directly with Ford Motor Co. on in-car software, including applications for self-driving cars.
Ford already is using software developed by BlackBerry’s QNX unit to control its Sync3 infotainment system. But until now the carmaker bought the software through Panasonic Corp.
Under the partnership, BlackBerry tells Bloomberg News it will be able to directly create more options for Ford. The carmaker has said it intends to sell 100,000 self-driving taxis per year by 2021.
