Ford Motor Co. is hiring 600 workers at a factory in Tatarstan to meet surging demand for SUV/crossovers and light-duty commercial vans made by its Russian venture with OSJC Sollers.

The Ford Sollers-owned facility in Elabuga makes Kuga small crossovers, Explorer large SUVs and Transit vans. Ford’s ales of those models jumped 50% in 2017, Reuters reports.

Deliveries of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia rose 12% to 1.43 million units through the first 11 months of last year, according to the Moscow-based Assn. of European Businesses. Ford’s sales over the same period advanced 16% to 44,700 units.

Russia’s four-year slump ended in March, when year-on-year demand grew 9%. Monthly sales since April have climbed by double-digit percentages.​​​​​
