Ford Motor Co. says it has reduced its global water consumption 30% between 2009 and 2013, a goal it didn't originally expect to reach until the end of 2015.

The company predicts it will shave water usage per vehicle built by another 2% this year.

Ford says it slashed its annual worldwide use of water to 6.6 billion gallons (25 million cubic meters) last year from 16.9 billion gallon (64 million cubic meters) in 2000.
