About 100,100 Subaru sedans and crossovers are being recalled in North America to fix a turbocharger flaw that could cause an engine fire.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says a faulty electrical relay could fail and cause the turbo’s secondary air injection pump to fail, overheat and melt. The agency reports two fires linked to the defect.
The campaign targets turbocharged 2007-2009 model Legacy sedans and Outback crossover vehicles, 2009-2013 model Forester crossovers and 2008-2014 Impreza small sedans.
Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries Inc. first detected the problem in 2011 but didn’t determine the root cause until 2015. The company has not indicated when the recall will begin.
