Finalists Named for European Car of the Year

A panel of journalists from 23 countries has selected seven finalists for the 2014 European Car of the Year award.

A panel of journalists from 23 countries has selected seven finalists for the 2014 European Car of the Year award. The winner will be announced on March 3 at the Geneva auto show.

The competitors, which were selected from an initial field of 30 models, include:

  • BMW i3 electric city car
  • Citroen C4 Picasso MPV
  • Mazda3 small hatch
  • Mercedes-Benz S-Class large luxury sedan
  • Peugeot 308 five-door hatch
  • Skoda Octavia sedan
  • Tesla Model S electric sport sedan
The finalists will undergo testing in Paris ahead of the final vote. To qualify for consideration, vehicles must be new models available in at least five European markets and be likely to achieve volume of at least 5,000 units per year.

Last year's winner was the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf, which outscored the Toyota GT86/Subaru BR-Z sport coupes and Volvo v40 five-door hatch.
