Fiat-Chrysler aims to double its market share in India which is currently less than 1% every year through 2016.

Nagesh Basavanhalli, president of the company's India unit, tells reporters that much of the share gain will be fueled by the launch of nine new or refreshed models in the country over the next three years.

Those models will include four bearing the Fiat brand, four from Chrysler group and one from Fiat's Abarth marque. The new offerings will broaden the company's lineup to include new midsize sedans, premium hatchbacks and SUVs.

Fiat-Chrysler also expects to bolster its India sales by expanding its dealer network in the country. Fiat ended its distribution partnership with Tata Motors Ltd. last year. The Italian company has set up 70 dealerships in the country since early 2013 and aims to have 100 outlets by year-end.
