Ferrari SpA says its new 812 GTS is the most powerful production convertible in the world.

The supercar’s 6.5-liter V-12 engine kicks out 789 hp and 530 lb-ft of torque. This compares with 759 hp for the V-12-powered Lamborghini Aventador SVJ Roadster and 755 hp for the current Chevrolet Corvette C7 ZR1 with a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8.

Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the 812 GTS’ naturally aspirated engine propels the car from zero to 100 kph (62 mph) in less than three seconds and 200 kph (124 mph) in 8.3 seconds. Top speed is listed at 211 mph.

Ferrari unveiled the new drop-top, which is based on the 812 Superfast coupe that bowed two years ago, at this week’s Frankfurt auto show. The car is Ferrari’s first full production V-12 convertible since the 365 GTS4 in 1969.

The convertible weighs 75 kg (165 lbs) more than the 812 Superfast coupe. But Ferrari says the retractable hardtop doesn’t reduce interior space. The top can be fully deployed in stowed in 14 seconds while driving up to 28 mph.

Deliveries are due to begin in mid-2020. Pricing is expected to be about 10% higher than the coupe, which starts at $335,000 in the U.S.
