Federal-Mogul, Dong Feng Form Piston JV in China

Federal-Mogul LLC’s powertrain operations is forming a joint venture with Dong Feng Motor Corp.’s Parts and Components Group subsidiary to produce pistons in Shiyan, China.

The Chinese company’s current Dong Feng Pistons and Bearing Co. business will be integrated into the joint venture. Federal-Mogul will hold a majority stake in the new company.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Located in China’s Hubei province, the joint venture will produce pistons for Dong Feng and other local carmakers. Federal-Mogul will design and engineer the pistons for applications in passenger and commercial vehicles.

Federal-Mogul opened its first manufacturing operations in China in 1995 and now operates 12 wholly owned and joint venture companies there. The venture with Dong Feng will be Federal-Mogul’s second piston manufacturing plant in China.
