Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is calling back 688,400 of its SUVs in Canada and the U.S. to check a shield that helps prevent the brake booster from corroding.

The campaign covers 2011-2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs sold in the U.S. All except 42,000 of the vehicles were sold in the U.S.

The recall will check plastic shields designed to protect brake boosters from being exposed to water, corroding and hampering their ability to provide power braking assist. A potential problem could be signaled by a brake system warning light and/or activation of the vehicle’s antilock braking system.

The shields were installed in a previous campaign in 2014. But FCA says warranty data indicate some of those replacement shields were incorrectly installed. Dealers will refit the shield and replace the brake booster if damage is found.
