Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is recalling 270,300 fullsize pickup trucks with fuel tanks that could sag.
The callback targets Ram 1500 trucks made during the 2009-2012 model years and operated in 20 states and the District of Columbia that constitute the U.S. “salt belt.”
FCA says road salt can corrode a bracket used to retain the plastic fuel tank. If the bracket breaks, the fuel tank could sag. But the company notes that other underbody structures would prevent the tank from falling out of the vehicle.
No injuries, accidents fires, fuel leaks or tank separations have been reported, according to FCA. The company says owners can detect a problem if they hear an unusual noise or see a hanging fuel tank strap under their truck.
