Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has appointed Timothy Kuniskis to head its expanding Alfa Romeo and Maserati brands globally, effective immediately.

Kuniskis had been in charge of passenger car brands in North America. His replacement in that job is Steve Beahm, who previously headed Maserati North America.

The new role for Kuniskis lifts global responsibility for the Alfa and Maserati brands from Reid Bigland, who continues as head of sales in the U.S. and CEO of FCA Canada. FCA says the move will enable Bigland to focus entirely on reviving the company’s sales in North America.

Last year FCA’s sales in the U.S. fell 9% in a market that shrank 2%, according to Autodata Corp. Last month the carmaker’s deliveries plunged 13% in a market that grew 1%.
