Mark Rosekind, former head of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has been hired by Zoox Inc., a secretive startup that is developing self-driving car technology.
Menlo Park, Calif-based Zoox describes itself as a robotics company pioneering autonomous mobility as a service. The 20-month-old company says it is developing a fleet of fully automated vehicles and the “supporting ecosystem” required to bring its system to market.
Zoox says Rosekind, who led NHTSA between 2014 and 2016, will be its chief safety innovation officer. He will lead efforts to develop, test and deploy automated vehicles.
