The industry trade group says sales were bolstered by gains of 13% to 49,600 units in the U.K., 4% to 25,200 units in Germany and 25% to 7,700 units in Spain.
Volume in September slipped 2% to 33,100 vehicles in France and 4% to 9,100 units in Italy.
Demand for light commercial trucks, which account for about 82% of the regional market, rose 5% to 135,400 units last month. ACEA reports that heavy-truck deliveries climbed 8% to 20,700 vehicles. Bus volume jumped 14% to 3,300 units.
Combined regional sales for January-September 2013 totaled 1.28 million units compared with 1.34 million in the same period last year.
