European Commission antitrust officials have granted unconditional approval to PSA Group to buy General Motors Co.’s Adam Opel unit.

The €2.2 billion ($2.5 billion) Opel acquisition, which was announced in March, is expected to be finalized within a few months. The deal will make PSA Europe’s second-largest carmaker after Volkswagen AG.

PSA says the EC continues to evaluate a related deal in which GM Finance operations in Europe would be acquired by the carmaker and French banking group BNP Paribas.
