Subaru says the 2014 model year will be the last for its Tribeca three-row midsize crossover.

The carmaking unit of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. confirms that production will cease in January 2014 for the historically weak model in what is an otherwise strong-selling portfolio. Subaru reports selling just 78,000 Tribecas since the seven-seater debuted as the B9 Tribeca in 2005. The company sold only 1,250 Tribecas in the first nine months of this year.

Subaru has announced plans for a future model in the segment for the 2017 model year. The new model also will be a three-row crossover but will be considerably larger and offer more functionality than the Tribeca.
