Eaton Corp. has expanded its supercharger line with the new TVS R2650 unit, which the company says is larger, more powerful and more efficient than previous devices.
Aimed primarily at souped-up aftermarket applications, the new supercharger is designed to provide peak efficiency at high engine speeds without compromising low and mid-range performance. Eaton says the R2650 is nearly 6% more efficient than its TVS R2300 supercharger and generates 25% more air flow at 18,000 rpm with 14 psi of boost, which the company notes can provide a significant bump in horsepower.
The new R2650 consumes 18% less energy despite being 15% larger than the R2300, according to the supplier. The system also gets improved sealing and larger bearings to enhance durability.
As with previous Eaton TVS (twin-vortices series) superchargers, the R2650 is a Roots-type device with twin four-lobe rotors. But the lobes are now twisted 170° instead of 160°, which shorten the rotor lead to help maintain peak efficiency at higher speeds and pressure ratios.
Eaton’s first supercharger was a three lobe design twisted 60°. The fourth lobe and added twist, when combined with redesigned air inlet and outlet ports, creates a smoother, more efficient flow of air into the engine and has improved noise and vibration characteristics.
