David Wyer has left Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd., where he was director of purchasing, to take the same position at Dyson Ltd., Bloomberg News reports.

The U.K.-based consumer appliance company, which has hired several other high-level automotive executives in the past year, is believed to be developing an electric vehicle funded by a British government grant. Last year Dyson acquired Sakti3, an Ann Arbor, Mich.-based startup specializing in solid-state batteries, for $90 million.

Wyer, who spent 22 years at Aston Martin, confirms the Dyson job on his Linkedin profile. He follows product development chief Ian Minards, who joined Dyson from Aston Martin last September. Other recent hires include former Tesla Inc. communications executive Ricardo Reyes and Andrew Watson from Silicon Valley software giant Symantec Corp. Watson is spearheading Dyson’s machine learning technology development.

Dyson declined to comment on its automotive aspirations. But the company says plans to add 3,000 engineers and scientists by 2020 and is working with more than 40 universities globally on unspecified projects.
