Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is evaluating the feasibility of a production version of the Durango Shaker concept vehicle that debuted earlier this month at the Specialty Equipment Market Assn. show in Las Vegas.
Based on the Durango full-size SUV, the concept teams a performance-tuned 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 with a large engine-mounted air-intake scoop that sticks out from a cut-out hole in the hood. The design is called a “shaker” hood because engine vibration can be seen during idling.
Dodge featured the design on several 1970s-era muscle cars, then reintroduced it on performance versions of the 2014 Challenger.
FCA initially didn’t have any production intentions for the Durango Shaker concept. But now the company is considering it based on the positive feedback it received from attendees at the SEMA aftermarket show, Dodge chief Tim Kuniskis tells The Detroit News. But he cautions that such attention doesn’t necessarily correlate to success in the general marketplace.
No timeframe was given for a decision on the vehicle or when it could be introduced if approved.
