Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV plans to resurrect the Dodge Demon nameplate as the next high-powered SRT variant of the brand’s Challenger muscle car.
The carmaker will unveil the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon in April at the New York auto show. The vehicle will be sold alongside SRT Hellcat versions of the Challenger and Charger cars for the 2018 model year. Chrysler hasn’t said if it will offer a Charger SRT Demon.
Performance information and other details about the Challenger Demon will be released over the next three months. Dodge expects the car to appeal to a “subculture of enthusiasts who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.”
The Challenger and Charger Hellcat models, which were launched two years ago, are powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 engine that makes 707 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque.
Dodge introduced the original Demon as a fastback hardtop variant of the 1971-1972 Dart small car. The name also was used for a 2007 concept car that never made it into production.
