Four years after announcing the project, Defining Extreme Vehicles Car Industry LLC (Devel) plans to publicly unveil its 5,000-hp Sixteen supercar at next week’s Dubai auto show.
Devel also announced a partnership with Italy’s Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) to build the Sixteen. MAT has produced several other low-volume hypercars and is due to add the Glickenhaus SCG 003 and Apollo Intensa Emozione soon.
Devel, a United Arabs Emirates-based startup, showed a prototype of the Sixteen at the 2013 Dubai show. In late 2015 Muskegon, Mich.-based tuner Steve Morris Engines (SME) released a video of the car’s 12.3-liter V-16 engine hitting 4,500 hp and 3,500 lb-ft of torque on a dynamometer.
Devel claims SME’s quad-turbo engine can propel the car to a top speed of 310 mph. This would make it the fastest street-legal car in the world, easily topping the 280-mph mark achieved earlier this month by Sweden’s Koenigsegg AB’s Agera RS supercar. The highest output car today is Hennessey Performance Engineering’s 1,600-hp Venom F5.
