Developer Says Coating Ends Chrome Exhaust Pipe “Bluing”
As every motorhead knows, chrome exhaust pipes tend to gain a bluish tinge over time.
As every motorhead knows, chrome exhaust pipes tend to gain a bluish tinge over time. The discoloration is a result of surface contaminants and repeated heating cycles.
But Wisconsin-based Nelson Global Products, a global maker of chrome-plated exhaust components and mufflers, claims its new BlueStop system can eliminate that problem.
The company says its multi-step clear ceramic coating process blocks bluing by sealing chrome surfaces against contamination at temperatures greater than 1,000 F. The coating also provides general corrosion protection.
Nelson Global plans to begin offering BlueStop on its components by this summer. The company also will introduce an array of ceramic coatings in various colors.
