Metawave Corp., a Silicon Valley-based startup specializing in advanced radar and 5G technologies, says it has completed its Series A funding round.

Denso Corp., which also provided seed money to Metawave in 2018, led the new round. Other contributors included NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Mirae Asset Capital and Bold Capital Partners. Hyundai and Toyota previously have invested in the company.

Formed in August 2017, Metawave is developing next-generation millimeter-wave radar for use in advanced driver-assist systems and future autonomous vehicles. The startup claims its technology will provide longer range, higher resolution, and greater angular accuracy and intelligent object classification compared with other radar systems.

Metawave also is developing active repeaters and passive relays to support the implementation of 5G-enabled communication devices. These systems will enable faster, more efficient and less expensive 5G deployments, according to the supplier.
