Denso Corp. has formed a wholly owned called Nsitexe to design and develop high-capacity chips for use by automated driving systems.

Yukihide Niimi, a Denso executive advisor, will lead the new unit as president. He says Nsitexe will begin mass-producing chips in the first half of the 2020s.

The next-generation processors Denso envisions will combine the features of a central processing unit with graphics processing. The company says its design will generate less heat and require less than 10% as much power as existing processors.

The new company hopes to establish itself as an industry standard for tier one suppliers, including some of its own competitors, according to Denso. Nsitexe also intends to license its intellectual property to other chipmakers.
