Sales of pickup trucks in China are likely to jump 29% to 450,000 units this year—their best result in two years, the China Passenger Car Assn. predicts. The group anticipates sales greater than 500,000 trucks in 2018.

CPCA says demand for pickups rose 13% to 250,800 units in January-August, boosted by sustainable growth in China’s macro-economy. Even so, pickups account for less than 2% of passenger vehicle sales in the country.

China’s pickup truck market is dominated by Great Wall Motor Co. and Jiangling Motors Co., with shares of 28% and 17%, respectively, according to the Shanghai Daily.
