Daimler AG is turning over all software engineering for the company's driver assist features to Elektrobit Corp., the Finish company it has partnered with over the past four years.

Daimler says it will redeploy its engineers who once worked with Elektrobit to focus on the challenges of implementing electronic features such as lane-departure warning and blind-spot detection.

Elektrobit has already helped develop software used in such electronic systems as adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, autonomous braking and driver drowsiness alerts. It now will be solely responsible for software projects for Daimler through 2020.

Elektrobit says it has supplied more than 200 software modules used in more than 25 Mercedes-Benz vehicle series. The company has developed a "software factory" approach intended to simplify the management of the growing volume of versions and variants for its Daimler software products.
