Plans for joint production of Mercedes and Nissan models in Mexico have been rumored for several months. Earlier reports said CLA sedan output would begin there in 2018.
The facility also is expected to make a small Infiniti luxury car that shares the CLA's platform. Analysts say the facility will build between 100,000 and 150,000 luxury vehicles per year.
