Daimler Apologizes for Exec’s Rant in China

Daimler AG has apologized for an incident in which one of its executives got into an argument about a parking spot and declared, “all you Chinese are bastards.”

The argument involved Rainer Gaertner, who took over as president of Daimler Trucks and Buses in China about one year ago. Local reports say he also pepper-sprayed an onlooker who attempted to intervene.

The incident was heavily reported by local media. Daimler described Gaertner’s behavior as “unbecoming of a manager of our brand and prejudicial to our good name.” Reuters reports that Daimler China, without naming names, says it has “relieved the manager of his position.”
