A major fire at a materials plant in Most, Czech Republic, has shut down the auto industry’s sole source of a polyurethane material used to coat such interior surfaces as door panels and instrument panels.
No injuries have been reported by Brussels-based Recticel NV, which owns the facility. But the factory’s output of its patented Colo-Fast spray-on material has been halted, according to Automotive News Europe.
Recticel traces its history to 1778 as a maker of gunpowder. The company has been involved in polyurethane products since the early 1950s and launched the Recticel brand in 1966.
The company supplies its polyurethane material to such interior component makers as Faurecia, Grupo Antolin, IAC, Magna International and Yanfeng Automotive Interiors.
