Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. plans to open a new Global Technical Center at its headquarters complex in Findlay, Ohio, by the end of this year.

The facility was announced last year. But work was suspended by the company's planned merger with India's Apollo Tyres Ltd. The project was revived after the Apollo deal collapsed.

Cooper Tire says the new facility eventually will employ about 40 engineers, scientists and technicians who conduct research on nanotechnology and new polymers and compounds. Their work will support the company's regional tech centers in China and England.
