Workers at logistics company DHL International GmbH who work at Jaguar Land Rover's three plants in England have authorized a strike over a contract dispute about pay and working conditions.
The carmaker relies on about 1,800 DHL employees to deliver components to the factories and shuttle parts to assembly lines.
Unite doesn't expect a final decision about whether to walk out for about four weeks. JLR says that if the DHL workers do strike, it is preparing unspecified measures to limit the loss of output.
The company's global sales jumped 15% to 176,500 vehicles in the first five months of this year. Its facility in Halewood operates around the clock to build the popular Land Rover Evoque crossover vehicle.
JLR boosted output at its plant in Solihull this year for the new generation of the Range Rover SUV. The Castle Bromwich factory began turning out the new Jaguar F-Type roadster in May.
