Compact VW Crossover Back on Track

Volkswagen AG has resumed plans to launch a production version of its concept Taigun compact crossover vehicle.
The on-again-off-again vehicle, which had been set to bow last year, now has been approved for a 2020 introduction, Auto Bild reports. The German magazine says the vehicle will be based on VW’s tiny Up! city car and has been renamed the T-Rack.
VW unveiled the Taigun concept in 2012 and showed an updated version (pictured) two years later. Plans for a production model were thwarted by cash problems stemming from VW’s diesel emission cheating scandal.
The T-Rack’s styling likely will be revised to reflect the larger T-Roc and T-Cross crossovers. The new model would compete against the Ford EcoSport, Honda HR-V and Renault Kwid.
