Chrysler Group LLC is preparing to launch a trio of recalls to find and repair steering tie rods that may have been incorrectly aligned and could break.
The campaigns involve about 1.2 million trucks, including 968,000 in the U.S., 157,000 in Canada and 55,000 elsewhere.
The largest recall will encompass 842,400 of the company's 2003-2008 model Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 pickups. Chrysler says about 116,000 of the trucks in that group were repaired with flawed tie-rod assembles.
Two more recalls will reexamine trucks previously recalled for tie-rod problems. One covers 294,000 2008-2102 model Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups, chassis cabs and 2008-model Ram 1500 4x4 Mega Cabs. The second involves 43,500 2008-2012 models Ram 4500 and 5500 4x4 chassis cabs.
Chrysler says the campaigns will probably begin in January, although parts for some trucks won't be available until late next year.
