Chinese authorities have told "several" German suppliers they can no longer operate their Chinese units independently and must find local partners, the Stuttgarter Zeitung reports.
The newspaper cites Stephan Wolf, CEO of ElringKlinger AG, a German maker of gaskets and plastic shields and housings.
Wolf says his company is not affected and declined to name those that have been targeted. He tells the newspaper that China's demand is, in effect, expropriation and would be an attack on the suppliers' intellectual property.
