General Motors Co. unveiled the LT Trailboss, one of eight 2019 fourth-generation Silverado models planned, this weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway as part of celebration marking the 100th anniversary of Chevy trucks. The 2019 Trailboss was flown to the event and lowered onto the stage by a Sikorsky S-61 helicopter.

The front-end features sculpted fenders and rounded wheel arches in place of the squared-off upright design on the 2018 model. Other changes include narrower headlights, a twin-slat grille and C-shaped LED daytime running lights.

A slight slope in the roofline reflects that of GM's latest midsize trucks. The side mirrors are mounted on the doors instead of the A-pillars, which is expected to improve visibility and aerodynamics.

GM’s says the all-new Silverado will feature several materials, which combined with advanced manufacturing processes provides a “significant” weight reduction and improved performance. The pickup bed will get a higher-grade steel than is used in today’s model. Previous reports have indicated that carbon fiber may be used in the bed on some versions of the new Silverado and its GMC Sierra twin.

Chevy says there will be more trim levels available and new powertrain options for the Silverado. The Trailboss features an off-road Z71 package with a two-inch suspension lift.

The company developed the all-new Silverado with input from 7,000 customers, which Chevy says is the most customer research in its history. More details will be announced next month at the Detroit auto show.
