General Motors Co. says the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine will generate 755 hp and 715 lb-feet of torque, making it the carmaker’s most powerful production model ever.
The pushrod V-8 is teamed with an Eaton supercharger that's 52% larger than the one used on the 650-hp Corvette Z06. The 95-mm throttle body also is GM’s largest ever. Other goodies include an upgraded crankshaft, more efficient intercooler and GM’s dual injection system that combines direct- and port-injection.
The engine is mated with a choice of two transmissions: a 7-speed manual or an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic. The car’s top speed is estimated at more than 210 mph.
Two aerodynamic packages are available. The standard low-wing rear setup delivers 70% more downforce than a Z06’s base system. A two-way adjustable high-wing kit creates even more downforce—as much as 950 lbs of pressure, which GM says is 60% more than the Z06’s performance package—to aid track handling.
Both rear wings are integrated directly into the chassis to improve strength and stability. All ZR1 models also will include a Chevy-first underbody front wing to further enhance downforce and vehicle handling.
GM unveiled the ZR1 this week at the Dubai auto show. Sales are to begin next spring.
