The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Chevrolet Silverado fullsize pickup truck have been voted this year's North American Car and Truck of the year, respectively.
The vehicles were selected by a panel of 49 U.S. and Canadian automotive journalists from an initial list of 46 entries representing all-new or significantly revamped models.
The Stingray, with 211 points, easily outscored the Mazda3 small sedan (185 points) and Cadillac CTS luxury sport sedan (94) in the final round. The Silverado (219 points) triumphed over the Jeep Cherokee SUV (174) and Acura MDX crossover (97).
The wins mark the first time General Motors Co.'s Chevy brand has won both awards in the same year. But both nameplates have won the North American honor before: the 'Vette in 1998 and the Silverado in 2007.
The NACTOY awards began 21 years ago. Domestic cars have won 12 times, compared with five from Asia and four from Europe. U.S.-brand trucks have swept the awards 14 times versus four from Asia and three from Europe.
