The car, which will be fitted with a power folding fabric top, lacks the coupe's prominent air intakes on top of the rear fenders that help cool the car's rear transaxle and differential. Those openings apparently have been relocated under the car to make room for the folding top's hard tonneau cover.
The drop-top is widely expected to use the same powertrain found in the seventh-generation coupe unveiled in January at the Detroit auto show. The coupe's new 6.2-liter V-8 engine, which makes 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, can propel the two-seater from zero to 60 mph in less than four seconds.
Pundits, who note that convertibles are generally heavier than their hardtop siblings, predict a slightly slower time for the rag-top Stingray.
