Without naming names, Ford Motor Co. CEO Mark Fields told employees on Monday that the company opposes the Trump administration’s broad ban on travel to the U.S. by citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries.
Fields and Executive Chairman Bill Ford also issued a public statement declaring the company “will not support” any policy that violates its own core value of respect for all people. Ford’s headquarters is in Dearborn, Mich., a city with a population that is roughly 40% Muslim.
The executives say the company is proud of its diversity and vows to promote respect and inclusion in the workplace. “That is why we do not support this policy,” they added. Ford and Fields add that the company is not aware of any employees who have been affected by the immigration ban.
Observers note that General Motors and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have so far declined to comment on the ban, which was announced on Friday. On Sunday GM’s head of human resources did tell employees the company will provide them with help if they encounter travel visa problems.
