Nissan controls 25% of the domestic market with about 400,000 sales last year. General Motors holds a 19% stake with 309,000 sales, followed by Volkswagen Group with a 15% share (247,000 units), according a joint report by the Mexican Automobile Distributors Assn. and Mexico Automotive Industry Assn.

Toyota, whose sales in Mexico surged 24% to 105,000 units in 2016, is in fourth place with a 7% market share. Hyundai and its Kia affiliate captured a combined 6% of the market.
