Registrations of new passenger vehicles in Spain fell 8% to 93,500 units last month, according to trade group ANFAC.

The drop snaps five years of expansion in January sales and reflects similar shrinkage in other major European car markets.

Demand for diesels plummeted 36% to 27,000 units, representing 29% of overall sales. Deliveries of gasoline-powered cars rose 9% to 56,100 units and a 60% share. ANFAC says sales of electrified vehicles climbed 30% to 9,000 units and 10% of the market.
