Demand for passenger vehicles in Russia dropped to 226,500 units last month from 245,300 in April 2013, the Moscow-based Assn. of European Businesses reports.
Volume through the first four months of 2014 totaled 829,000 units, down 4% year on year. AEB predicts no improvement because tepid consumer demand continues to be hurt by the weakening ruble.
Sales for most of Russia's top eight brands declined last month, topped by market leader Lada (-16% to 37,000 units). Demand also fell at Renault (9% to 17,400), Kia (3% to 17,700), Toyota (1% to 15,100), Chevrolet (17% to 13,300) and Volkswagen (19% to 11,500).
April sales were flat at 15,900 units at Hyundai but climbed 43% to 11,800 at Nissan.
